Afam Osigwe, President of the Nigerian Bar Association, has recommended that NBA branches follow the trials of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrators.
Osigwe also indicated that he has started a pro bono support effort for demonstrators who do not have legal representation.
He announced this in a post on his X account on Wednesday.
Osigwe stated that the NBA’s Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) has been formed to ensure that no defendant is treated unfairly.
The post stated, “I have directed the branches of the Nigerian Bar Association @NigBarAssoc to monitor the trials of the #EndBadGovernance protesters.” In addition, I’ve started a pro bono support campaign for demonstrators who don’t have legal representation.
“The Nigerian Bar Association Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) has been entrusted with closely collaborating with the Chairmen and Human Rights Committees of NBA branches in locations where demonstrators are currently facing prosecution. This assures that no defendant faces injustice.
“The NBA legal team will continue to monitor court proceedings to ensure that trials are conducted in strict accordance with due process, protecting the legal rights of all defendants.
” The Nigerian Bar Association legal teams are currently in court and will continue to monitor proceedings to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, defendants’ human rights are safeguarded, and justice is served.
