On Thursday, August 15, 2024, in a brief ceremony presided over by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, who was just named Mandate Secretary for Youth Development, and four other permanent secretaries of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, were sworn into office.
In a statement, the minister attributed the appointments to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and urged the new appointees to contribute to the FCT’s overall growth.
In an appeal for patience, he promised FCT inhabitants that the president would always keep his word and that things will get better soon, both there and across the nation.
In response to the demand from young people in the FCT for such a body, Wike stated that extensive consultations with area councils and other interested parties preceded the establishment of the Secretariat for Youth Development and the selection of its mandate secretary.
As a result, he has charged the new secretary with creating initiatives to involve and empower the FCT’s youth.
According to the minister, the president always follows through on his pledges. For that reason, I insist that we should take our time.
Even though things are tough right now, the president is doing everything in his power to make things better for the country.
Now that you’re the Mandate Secretary for Youths, it’s your responsibility to sit down and devise a plan to assist the kids.
Put yourself in the shoes of the young people of Abuja and figure out how you can assist them. Mr. President, you have done your bit; now it is up to you to gather with us to assist the youth, teach them to be entrepreneurs, and create initiatives to lessen the impact of adversity. You will be held accountable in the event that anything goes wrong.
Additionally, Wike admonished the newly appointed permanent secretaries to rise to the challenge of their positions or step down from their positions.
It is in my interest that the new permanent secretaries be dedicated and hardworking, he stated. It would be wise for you to step down immediately if you are aware that you are unable to continue working.
The minister warned that he would not stand for incompetence after claiming that the president has done what he could to inspire FCTA public servants by ending their years of stagnation.
