Actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has spoken publicly about the time she traded screenplays for acting parts in her early career.

She made this statement during an interview with Radionow FM, when she discussed her career change from actress to director.

According to Omoni, she became determined to become a director after seeing the films and seeing that her ideas weren’t being implemented.

When I was in the script-for-role trading business, I would demand acting parts instead of cash.

I decided to give it a go. However, as I like to think visually while I write, I may be disappointed when I see the finished product and find it differs from my original vision. Seeing the screenplay in the movie is completely different from what I’m writing.

This is not to imply that it was bad; after all, no two filmmakers would ever approach a given script with the same vision.

“So I thought, if my stories are going to reflect who I am, then I need to be the one to steer them,” she explained.

It was a terrifying idea at first, but I reminded myself, Warri don’t have to shoulder that load. their thing that I don’t understand? Yeah, I’m going to do this.

As a result, I’ve taken to “understudying” directors, which is basically acting on set while keeping a careful eye on the director.

Then I mentioned that maybe I should get some training in this area. “Therefore, I decided to take a crash course at NYFA,” she said.
