Rapper Anthony Ebuka Victor of Nigeria goes by the stage name Victony and has discussed the people and ideas that have influenced his music.

According to the musician, who began his career as a rapper before branching out into other genres, some of his hip-hop heroes include international superstars like Meek Mill, J.Cole, Drake, and MI Abaga, as well as his fellow countrymen Odumodublvck and Shallipopi.

“I began [my career] as a rapper,” Victony stated in a recent interview with Sway Universe. Earlier in my career, I was tremendously inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s artistic vision. When it comes to hip-hop, Kendrick is one of the few artists whose visuals are as important as his lyrics. Because of that, I became a huge admirer of Kendrick.

Drake is great because he can adapt to different situations. Among the first Americans to embrace Afrobeats, he is a trailblazer. Prior to that, I was a Drake fan. I also paid attention to J. Cole, obviously. I put on some Meek Mill music.

MI Abaga is an inspiration to me as well since he helped bring rap music to a wider audience in Nigeria and gave hope to aspiring new artists that they might make it big in the industry.

Odumodublvck and Shallipopi are now examples of this. The US tour by Odumodublvck was just completed. In Nigeria, rap is booming. Mixing it with afrobeats is something I do sometimes.

Victony added that he hopes to encourage other kids from Nigeria to follow their aspirations.

My motivation is to help Doyin. To help the kids in Ojo, I am engaging in this. He hoped that people would find inspiration in him.
