Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna State, has promised that his government will seek justice for the family of 16-year-old Ismail Muhammad, who was shot and murdered by a military officer while protesting the current situation.
According to the schoolhubby the adolescent was fatally shot by a soldier on Tuesday as soldiers from the Nigerian army broke into the Samaru hamlet in Zaria in an attempt to disperse the hunger protestors.
Army officials released a statement on Wednesday confirming the errant officer’s arrest and detention pending investigation results.
In a statement he signed on Thursday, the governor of Kaduna addressed the incident and assured Nigerians that justice would be served for the deceased.
The governor expressed his condolences to the teen’s family, saying that he had already sent a powerful delegation consisting of high-ranking government officials and heads of security agencies to pay them a visit.
Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security, was in charge of the group.
I spoke with Muhammad Hussaini, the father of the deceased, over the phone while the team was with the family, expressing our greatest condolences.
I assured him that we will examine every possible avenue in our pursuit of justice because we are profoundly saddened by the tragic event. We will investigate the matter thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
During these difficult times, the governor promised to remain in regular contact with the deceased’s family.
