Kano national prayers postponed due to safety concerns

An organized national prayer session that was supposed to take place on Saturday has been postponed due to recent security concerns in Kano State and the extensive damage and vandalism that ensued after the EndBadGovernment protests.

Originally, the national prayer was supposed to be held at the Mosque of Isyaka Rabi’u in Goron Dutse, Kano, on August 10.

Mubarak Ibrahim Lawan, coordinator of the national prayer, announced the cancellation with profound sadness due to the security circumstances, as the event was intended to promote national peace and stability.

Lawan said in a statement issued on August 9 that intelligence inputs from Alhassan Muhammad, the state’s director of state services (DSS), and CP Salman Dogo Garba, the commissioner of police in Kano state, were the basis for the decision to cancel the event.

There were rumblings that the prayer session could be taken over and cause more chaos in the country.

The statement claimed that these security personnel had warned the event’s organizers about “evil forces” that were plotting to disrupt the otherwise peaceful gathering.

“Some criminals have been planning to sneak up on the law-abiding worshippers and take advantage of the gathering,” Lawan announced.

They may encourage some young people to repeat the looting, stealing, and other disturbances that occurred on August 1st, when the nationwide protest started.

“Thus, in order to prevent any possible disorder in the state, we have decided to cancel the large gathering scheduled for today, Friday, August 9th,” Lawan announced.

He emphasized the importance of people staying at their mosques and praying wherever they may be.

Because Allah hears us no matter where we are, our prayers can have an impact no matter where we are.

He urged the public to exercise extreme caution around strangers who may be carrying suspicious items.

Lawan begged the people to keep praying for the nation.

He urged his countrymen to pray fervently for their country’s improvement, saying that he hoped their prayers would help bring about stability and peace in Nigeria.
