The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), YD Ahmed, has promised Corps Members that as soon as Civil Servants begin earning the new minimum pay agreed by the Federal Government, their monthly allowance will increase.

Ahmed made this pledge while addressing Corps Members at the Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari and the Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko.

He stated that their selfless and tremendous contributions to the country’s socioeconomic progress cannot be underestimated.

Ahmed also urged the Corps members to take use of the service year to develop themselves and aim for better success in the future.

Speaking further, he recommended the Corps Members to participate in the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme in order to get vocational skills that would enable them to become self-sufficient.

“At the very least, learn a skill while at camp, and then continue your training following the Orientation Course.

“Rather than looking for jobs, try to learn a talent that will allow you to create jobs and hire people.

We have numerous Ex-Corps Members across the country who are succeeding in their various careers today,” the DG stated.

He went on to say that NYSC Management has collaborated with a number of organizations, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry, Unity Bank Access Bank, and the NNPC Foundation, to help Corps Members obtain loans and grants.

Ahmed informed them that the Scheme would not assign any Corps Member to a location where their safety was not guaranteed, and he recommended them to be security vigilant at all times.

Mrs Aghata Banki Okolo, while giving her Camp Situation Report to the Director General, Kebbi State Coordinator, stated that a total of 1,195 Corps Members had been registered, with 1,077 from Kebbi and 118 from Zamfara.

“They are reacting well to all camp activities and directions. We also have 240 camp officials who use emotional intelligence in the course of their jobs,” she noted.

Also, the NYSC Sokoto State Coordinator, Alhaji Yakubu Yaro Usman, informed General Ahmed that the Corps Members shown a high level of discipline and acclimatized to the camp atmosphere while adhering to camp laws.

He went on to say that the Corps population was 1,488 people, including 682 males and 606 females from Sokoto State, as well as 134 males and 66 females from Zamfara.
