As the Hunger Protest hits its peak today, Saturday, hundreds of Nigeria Police Force Operatives have been stationed at key flashpoints in Abuja.
On Friday night, security forces in the nation’s capital stepped up their monitoring, as reported by schoolhubby.
Multiple security checkpoints have been set up around the Three Arms Zone, which is home to important buildings such as the Eagle Square, Federal Secretariat, National Assembly Complex, Supreme Court, and Presidential Villa.
The area outside the MKO Abiola Stadium, where the #EndBadGovernance protests were supposed to take place, was similarly affected.
A million people will take to the streets in all 36 states plus Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to bring the protests to a close, according to organizers who made the vow on Friday.
It was last Thursday when the demonstration began, with the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy being one of the many demands.
According to schoolhubby, a number of states—including Kano, Plateau, Niger, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno—saw violent protests that resulted in the deaths of at least fifteen people, injuries to dozens more, and the destruction of numerous homes.
