Several ECCDE schools in the Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State were recently inspected by Grace Adagba, the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

On Thursday, the inspection began in different schools around Makurdi.

During the inspection, Adagba emphasized the need of enrolling children aged 2 to 5 in ECCDE centers around the state. He pointed out that these centers are currently run by all public primary schools.

Dr. Adagba, accompanied by Mr. Jacob Ukaha, the Education Secretary of Makurdi LGA, stated that the purpose of the tour was to conduct inspections of ECCDE centers around Makurdi LGEA in anticipation of the impending return to school.

On the itinerary were stops to the following schools: LGEA Primary School Wurukum, LGEA Central Primary School Makurdi, NKST Primary School Wadata, St. Mary’s Primary School North Bank, LGEA Primary School Ichwa North Bank, Holy Family Primary School Kanshio, NKST Primary School Gaadi, and LGEA Owner Occupier.

Head teachers should market their schools to attract more students, and Adagba said that classes should begin on the first day of resumption.

On the first day of resumption, you are expected to begin teaching. “Get your lesson plans ready right now,” she instructed.

This is not going to be the same old thing anymore; a lot has changed. Progress is what we’re after.

Government teachers are not independent contractors, she said; they are required to be present at their posts at all times, including holidays.

Unannounced, Adagba also stopped by the Zonal Office and Makurdi Local Government Education Authority. She emphasized the vital role of SUBEB Zonal Offices in overseeing schools and immediately reporting any issues to the Board, and she urged Mr. Gom Clement and his team to stay committed to their work.

Mr. Bartholomew Atsar, headteacher of LGEA Primary School Wurukum, made a statement expressing his happiness with the better working circumstances for educators brought about by the present government. He also vowed to do his best to raise the bar for basic education in the state.
