Tinubu mandates fewer delegates to the UNGA

Only those with official business at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) may attend, per President Tinubu’s directive.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, made this announcement to the heads of the government agencies under its purview at a one-day retreat hosted by the State House administration.

“I just discussed with the President this afternoon,” he declared. We will witness a test of this policy in the upcoming weeks during UNGA in New York.

“Reductions in the cost of government were discussed during the recent protests. Everyone is anticipating if Nigeria will send the “largest delegation” to the UNGA, as it has in the past.

We know from experience that some people take advantage of these international gatherings to conduct personal business.

“Mr. President has given me instructions to be stern this time around. Mr. President has given the order, “Do not set foot in America if you have business at the UN General Assembly.”
