A number of northern factions have expressed their support for the appeal made by Defence Minister of State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to strategically deploy the military to Sokoto State.

The organizations, Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Northern Awareness Network (NAN), and the North West Solidarity Forum (NWSF), see the decision to strengthen collaborative military operations against bandits in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi States as a crucial measure to address the increasing security issues in the northern region.

In individual statements released by Yerima Shettima, the President General of the AYCF, Salihu Suleiman, the Chairman of NAN, and Tanimu Danlawal, the Spokesperson of the NWSF, the group underscored the persistent threat posed by violence, criminality, and insurgency to the safety and socio-economic stability of northern Nigeria. Consequently, the group acknowledges the pressing need for resolute measures.

In light of the ongoing violence and crime, the AYCF agrees that the successful execution of this military strategy is crucial for the restoration of safety and security.

The organization emphasizes its steadfast endorsement of policies that give priority to safeguarding residents and maintaining the stability of communities.

“We urge the federal government to promptly apprehend any individuals expressing such opinions, whether hiding behind false information, disagreement, or excessive doubt, and bring them to justice through suitable legal proceedings.”

They implored both governmental and non-governmental organizations to collaborate in advancing open and efficient communication to discourage divisive narratives and safeguard efforts focused on social development and security.
