The Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango-Abule Egba Highway, which was left abandoned by the previous administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, is now being rebuilt, according to Bayo Onanuga, who is the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu.

The neglect of the road, according to Onanuga, made it a major source of embarrassment.

After the road work was shifted to Ogun State by Tinubu’s administration, he praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for taking it on.

In a post on his X page, Abiodun announced the start of the road construction and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for transferring the project to Ogun State. He also welcomed everyone who attended the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the Abeokuta/Ifo/Sango/Abule-Egba Road.

Connecting important areas in Ogun and Lagos States, this 70-kilometer route supports local and national economies and provides an essential link to neighboring West African nations.

We promised the people that the road would be rebuilt to international standards, complete with sidewalks, drainage systems, and traffic signs. Aside from enhancing economic activity and people’ quality of life, the project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities for those with varying levels of competence.

“Our larger goal is to improve infrastructure throughout Ogun State, which includes this reconstruction project. This will help create jobs, reduce poverty, and ensure food security.”

“The Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango-Abule Egba Highway is now under construction,” Onanuga announced in response. During Obasanjo’s presidency, the state of Ogun felt embarrassed that the vital road was disregarded.

“We owe it to Governor Abiodun to express our gratitude for assuming responsibility for the road’s reconstruction following its transfer from the Tinubu administration to the Ogun State Government.”
