Rema the Afrobeats category was founded by my song

According to Nigerian musician Divine Ikubor, better known by his stage name Rema, the success of his single “Calm Down” led to the creation of an Afrobeats category at several international awards.

While on ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Rema restated his belief that he is equal to Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, three of the biggest names in Afrobeats.

No, please don’t make me feel like the Messiah of Afrobeats. Occasionally, he longed for the original members to speak up, but since they weren’t doing so, he considered speaking up himself.

Yeah, I’m one of the Big Four, and respect to the OGs and all that. The success of my song has already opened doors, so even a major award show establishing an Afrobeats category would be great.

The schoolhubby cites Rema’s “Calm Down Remix” as the inspiration for the first Best Afrobeats Song category at the MTV Video Music Awards, which Selena Gomez took home last year.
