Damage to buildings, infrastructure, and farmlands was significant after the collapse of Alau Dam near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, was caused by heavy rains in recent days.

The news of the devastating flooding in Borno and Bauchi has pained me to my core. The brave residents of these states have my deepest sympathies as they endure the devastating loss of life, property, and livelihoods.

There must be immediate action to avert future calamities of this kind in light of the federal and state governments’ commitment to provide relief and assistance to those in need.

Urgent and unwavering response is required in light of the catastrophic consequences of these floods. To make sure the impacted communities get the help they need, I will keep fighting for the funding and support that is required.

During this difficult time, she emphasized that the people of Borno and Bauchi were in her prayers.
