Army soldiers targeted and dismantled more than 115 illicit refining facilities 66 boats and apprehended 22 people

The Nigerian Army has successfully dismantled more than 115 illicit refining facilities, seized 66 boats, and apprehended 22 individuals involved into these activities.

The Army announced on its social media site that it has successfully retrieved 27 stolen pipelines, 4 pumping equipment, shut down 5 unlawful connections, confiscated over 170,000 stolen products, and deactivated other related devices.

In Bayelsa State, the Division undertook operations in the marshy Ibidi general area, Twon Brass, Agip Terminal in Brass Local Government Area (LGA). During these operations, they intercepted an illegal refining site, a generator, a pumping machine, a reservoir, and a large wooden boat carrying stolen refined products, estimated to be over 90,000 litres.

In the vicinity of Igbomotoru in Southern Ijaw LGA, two illicit refining facilities, one wooden boat, and more than 2000 items were seized. Within the same Local Government Area (LGA), specifically in Opotoma and Isinugbene, military personnel successfully disabled two illicit refining facilities and seized more than 2500 litres of stolen crude oil. It stated

The report claimed that in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, four illicit refining facilities, two wooden boats, and pumping equipment were seized, together with more than 2500 litres of stolen crude oil.

The Okarki forest witnessed the destruction of an illicit artisanal refinery, resulting in the confiscation of more than 5,000 stolen crude petroleum.

A total of 79 illicit refining stations were identified along the infamous Imo River, resulting in the destruction of 59 wooden boats and the recovery of almost 40,000 stolen items.
